Solevaka services both the innovation and localisation agendas simultaneously. We encourage the sharing of knowledge and experience so that limited resources are not spent re-inventing the wheel. We embrace technologies that enhance connectivity and inclusivity. And we believe in south-south collaboration and that context counts. Small Island Developing States share many of the same challenges but each has a distinct history, culture and set of preconditions that will impact how these challenges can be successfully overcome in the long term.
Anything that you know or have read that contributes to sustainable development in the Pacific is relevant. A key premise for building the platform is to capture informal knowledge and make it searchable and sharable. By talking through problems and solutions in a digital space, what was once undocumented suddenly becomes documented. We do not seek to be a repository for official reports or a data portal for static information. We see value in peoples experience and we add value by extracting and archiving the wealth of tacit knowledge i.e. insights, experiences, ideas and observations, held by the development community.
The platform has been designed for any individual working toward the development of the Pacific Region. We are soliciting perspectives from across sectors, geographies, and professional background. Solevaka increases in value with the number of users that participate and the diversity of experience that is shared. Your participation has real value, help us have a positive effect and make your contribution to Solevaka.
CoPs bring together individuals with shared interests, either in person or virtually, so that they can share their experiences, discuss issues and opportunities, talk through best practice and lessons learned and provide advise to their peers. They are designed to promote the cross fertilisation of ideas and the social nature of learning within or between organisations, traditionally linking a geographically dispersed workforce. Online Community’s of Practice seek to replicate the social spaces where natural knowledge sharing occurs, whether it be the tea room or the break-out space at a regional conference.
Herein lies the beauty of an online platform, it is inherently scalable. You can organise a private, invite-only consultation for 10 people or open it up for a 10,000 strong public consultation. Talk to our team and discuss the different online tools that can help you streamline and execute your next consultation.
It all starts by becoming a Solevaka member.
That depends on your needs. If you are interested in a passive experience and want a source of news and events, preferring to observe rather than contribute to discussions then no, you don’t need to. You can still sign up for our newsletter and be kept up to date on all SDG related activities. If you want to start using the platform to share information, set up a virtual space or comment in any way then for transparency, you must become a member first.
Our member spaces are where different communities of practitioners can conduct facilitated exchanges, consultations and discussions; consolidating their resources and voices in one place. Our members can create private spaces and use simple tools to collaborate and coordinate around focused activities, with access to experts for specific advice on SDG implementation. Set up your account preferences to receive notifications relevant to you.
Your privacy is important to us. Only members can view your profile and private information such as email address/phone number, etc are not available publicly.
Talk to us to discuss how you can contribute to Solevaka, whether it is starting your own Community of Practice or setting up a community consultation. Contact us to submit articles to our knowledge bank. Once approved, we’ll upload it for you and grant access to a wider audience as you choose, from a select group, to member-only or open-access, we’ll even help you advertise.
At Solevaka we are always looking for relevant articles and perspectives to share on our public spaces, submit your blog, vlog or opinion piece today or speak to the team about becoming a guest contributor.
