Residents of Gounoa, in Malaita Province's Central Kwara'ae, have received training in best farming practices.
Rural communities in the province struggle with under-nutrition, over-nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and diet-related non-communicable diseases, according to a recent survey conducted in 10 communities across three regions (NCDs).
The survey conducted by World Vision, Alliance for Biodiversity International, and CIAT also revealed a decline in fruits and vegetables in communities because of an increase in inexpensive imported food.
As a result, a training was essential and intended to equip villagers with relevant knowledge about farming practices to address the nutrition problem in their communities.
